Ever notice how sometimes the most profound clarity comes from the simplest questions?

This week, instead of wrestling with the buzzing thoughts in my head when writing this email, I decided to pull a tarot card, close my eyes, and do an intuitive visualization.

I pulled the Seven of Swords reversed.

The figure in this card is awkwardly carrying five swords (by the blades! Ouch!) while looking back longingly at two swords they couldn’t manage to pick up. It feels like a frozen moment right before a stumble.

After pulling this card, I closed my eyes and imagined myself as that figure…

What are these swords I’m holding? I wondered.

The swords in my hands revealed themselves as my ideas, experiences, skills, my unique way of doing things, and the deep care I have for my clients.

And what are those swords I’m unable to carry? I asked.

Those were everyone else’s expertise, ideas, experiences, and unique approaches. As I visualized, I saw other readers I’ve met at fairs, each with their own beautiful gifts. It became so clear that their “swords” aren’t meant for me – they’re literally impossible for me to hold.

What would happen, I pondered, if I were to stop looking back at the swords I’m literally unable to wield?

I would move forward with greater joy and energy. I would finally have the presence to hold my own swords by the hilts instead of the blades, and truly use my gifts.

Your birth chart isn’t just a personality description – it’s permission to stop forcing someone else’s path to fit. That’s something I need to remind myself of often.

So here’s my invitation to you – close your eyes and imagine you’re the one in this card:

• What are the swords you’re already holding, and what are the ones stuck in the ground?
• What is your relationship to each set of swords?
• What’s one thing you can do to shift your focus to the swords – ideas, experiences, gifts – that are already yours?
